the magic of owning the mess before we begin to make it
Life is a mess. And we each embody this in our own unique way. Metaphorically and fundamentally we make messes and clean them up throughout life. Over and over and over again we overcomplicate so as to simplify. Why? One explanation is simply, to feel. To experience. To, again and again, become art, so to speak. More accurately; to realize, or become aware of, the art that we are. Any artist will tell you it’s messy. I'm here to tell you it's ongoing. Like, throughout lifetimes ongoing...
From a beyond universalized perspective the entire conflagration of existence is so...well...extra.
So then, to put it bluntly, as so many of us have, and do, so many times in a lifetime: why exist? One word. Intensity.
For example, the incipience of psychology as a fundamental tenet might be narrowed down to a theory called just noticeable difference. Another early theorist labeled primary notable compartments as frequency, intensity and duration. These became the filtering bins into which psychologists would categorize thoughts and behavior patterns considered dysfunctional, so as to clarify treatment need and course.
Yet another founder of the field named the singular fundamental component worth examining as internal locus of control (vs. external). Imagine these components put together as a funnel. The wide opening of the generalized function of perception at the top as internal/external locus of control, followed by the slightly narrowing perception-formed conduit of just noticeable difference (JND), and then the guiding tube of intensity, frequency and duration at the bottom.
External locus of control is the spawning and spurning of the mess. It is the experience of engaging the perception that something else is deciding, pressuring, controlling, or even forcing JND and the individualized experience of intensity, frequency and duration.
And now for the clean-up. Notably, we fundamentally tend to experience intensity based on frequency and duration, but not frequency or duration based on intensity. In other words, frequency and duration can greatly impact our experience of intensity. Hence in universalized experience intensity can be used to accurately describe, in one word, the point of existence. And now the point of this writing, just as a funnel comes to a point. Hollowly.
Why do funnels exist? To prevent spills. And yet to use them makes another, different kind of mess to clean up. Life is like this. Endless many messes to clean (or not, which is an altogether, and scattered apart, different matter), making more messes of a different sort.
Some might say, "then why try?!" Others, "Hallelujah! More!!!"
What will your intensification look like?
